Cowboys Focus On Defense in 2012 Draft

The Cowboys clearly had an agenda in mind going into the 2012 NFL Draft. The Cowboys finished the 2012 Draft with 5 out of 7 picks being defensive, which is something they haven’t done in almost 30 years. Thanks to the draft, it would appear that Rob Ryan’s defense is starting to take form.

They upgraded the secondary with free agent signings of Brodney Pool and Brandon Carr and drafted Morris Claiborne, arguably the best DB in the draft, and Matt Johnston. By drafting Tyrone Crawford and Kyle Wilber, they added much needed Depth on their defensive line. Hopefully adding this type of depth will keep the defensive strong late in the season.

The Cowboys also addressed the loss of Laurent Robinson and Martellus Bennett by drafting wide receiver Danny Coale, who has been compared to Wes Welker and tight end James Hanna who has to be better than Bennett.

I think the Cowboys did a great job over the weekend and certainly are going with the “defense wins championships” approach. Is it time to get into camp yet?

COWBOYS PICKS

Cowboys traded up to 6th in order to get Claiborne but we desperately need help in the secondary and this kid has A LOT of potential. I like the pick, I really do!!

He was 68.

Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple confirmed that Avezzano died in Italy. He had moved to Milan earlier this year to coach an Italian Football League team, the Milan Seamen. That team said on its website that Avezzano died of a heart attack. Attempts to resuscitate Avezzano were unsuccessful, the team said.

Avezzano had a 12-year run with the Cowboys and became a popular figure in North Texas.
Super Bowl XLVI

Congratulations to the New York Giants for putting together a run at the end of the season that ended with their 4th Super Bowl. It makes the Cowboys fan nervous that the Giants are now 1 trophy away from being our equal – in terms of championships in the Super Bowl era, not on the field. When it comes to being equals on the field, we aren’t even close.

The Giants aren’t the best team, I wouldn’t even say they are great team but they do know how to win at the right time. We were 6 minutes away from putting their season on ice and they made a comeback from 12 points down and never looked back. They then took it to us in week 17 and rode that way in a crushing victory over Atlanta and then beat the 15-1 defending champs in Green Bay and the very good defensive 49ers in San Fran to reach the Super Bowl. They just know how to win when it counts, something the Cowboys haven’t been able to do in a long time.

The funny thing is, I can think of 2 plays that came down to luck that would have changed the outcome of the Giants season, just two plays. The one, happened against us in week 14. Romo missed a wide open Miles Austin which would have either resulted in a touchdown or at least a first down which probably would have allowed Dallas to run the clock, thus ending their season. The other, happened last night as Brady missed an opportunity to hit Welker, who wasn’t quite wide open but close enough, which would have given the Pats the ball on the Giants 20, a first down and probably enough time to run the clock down on the Giants.

Sometimes, Lady Luck is just on your side. But now, it’s time for us to start concentrating on February 3, 2013 and hopefully the Cowboys will be making an appearance in New Orleans for Super Bowl XLVII.
